Don Richmond: Producer

Recording & Production Samples

Here’s a brief sampling of some recent projects Don has engineered, as well as produced or co-produced.

Eliza Gilkyson – Songs From the River Wind and Home

Twice Grammy nominated Eliza Gilkyson is one of the most beloved singer-songwriters in the folk/Americana/roots music world today. Her songs have been covered by Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, The Conspirare Choir, Tom Rush and Rosanne Cash and have appeared in films, PBS specials and on primetime TV. A member of the Austin Music Hall of Fame, and an inductee into the Austin Songwriter Hall of Fame, she has won countless Folk Alliance and Austin Music awards, including 2014’s Songwriter of the Year and the “Song of the Year” Award at the Folk Alliance International Conference in 2021. Eliza is known for her compassionate take on the human condition and her story-songs that celebrate and grieve for the natural world and the critical times to which her music bears witness. Don is listed as producer on Songs From the River Wind and co-producer (with Eliza) on Home, and played many instruments on both projects, as well as engineering and mixing.

Michael Hearne and Shake Russell - Only as Strong as Your Dreams

Only as Strong as Your Dreams is the long awaited first duo release of these two old friends and long-time collaborators and co-writers. Hearne and Russell are truly a powerhouse duo, with two long lifetimes spent writing, singing and playing the songs of Texas and the great Southwest. Shake’s deep poetry, beautiful love songs and delightfully expressive vocal and guitar work are perfectly complemented by Michael’s blazing musicianship, “whiskey-velvet voice” (as friend Eliza Gilkyson described it), and his own rich and varied songwriting. Shake recently had a song land on Miranda Lambert’s platinum selling “The Weight of These Wings” and has previously had songs covered by Ricky Skaggs, Waylon Jennings, and Clint Black. Michael is widely credited with establishing the sound of  “Southwest Americana” in northern New Mexico and across Texas, and has songs recorded by Gary P. Nunn, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Johnny Rodriguez.

Bill is often referred to as “the Doc Watson of the Southwest”, referring both to his visual impairment (legally blind) but mostly to his phenomenal flatpicking prowess, regularly both holding down a danceable rhythm while playing creative and distinctive lead runs simultaneously.
